Building Up Forgiveness is a one day event for adoptive parents and their children to give families tools to engage in conversations with their children about living a life of forgiveness. Therefore, giving them the opportunity to encourage forgiveness on a smaller scale, but also relate to broader issues, like those that may relate directly to their adoption.  Forgiveness is a critical part of our being healthy and happy people; it is also a significant component of helping children heal.

Parent’s Workshop

Parents will participate in trainings on the topics of emotionally coaching their children and understanding the journey of forgiveness for adults and children.  Emotion coaching can serve as a tool to help you have conversations with your children and see emotional moments as opportunities to connect to your child and teach them about feelings.  Parents will also work on their journey to forgiveness and learn ways to assist their children in this journey.  Several training techniques which will be used during this training include video, discussion, lecture, and activities.

Children’s Workshop

Adopted children will participate in activities and discussion about forgiveness. They will complete a craft project, watch a short excerpt from a movie, listened to a book reading, and play a game.  Each of these activities will be related to a child’s journey of forgiveness through examples and fun.
